About Kate (She/Her)

I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.

My particular focus as a therapist is on life transitions and transformative change. I’m interested in how we shift in our understanding of identity as we pass through different life stages, and how we can get stuck in old stories about who we are.

I also work with a limited number of couples who demonstrate mutual willingness to strengthen their relationship through meaningful communication and genuine emotional expression.

I completed my psychotherapy training at the Toronto Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling Education. During my psychotherapy studies, I also spent two years at the Gestalt Institute of Toronto. I have completed short courses in Narrative Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples.

My approach is influenced by my interest in storytelling and grounded in many years of mindfulness practice and study.

I am a working novelist. If you are curious about my writing, you can find out more here . Please be aware that I keep a firm boundary between my creative work and my therapeutic work. I will neither write about my clients, nor assist them in seeking publication for their own writing. I do, however, have a strong interest in the connection between creativity and mental health, and will encourage you to pursue your own creative outlets.

I have had several careers. I hold a B.A. in English Literature from McGill University and a J.D. (law degree) from the University of Toronto. For most of my career, I worked at the University of Toronto in senior administrative roles, including ten years as a major gift fundraiser. I also spent time in the publishing industry at the beginning of my work life.

I’m divorced and remarried. I have two biological sons and a step-daughter. I practice yoga, am an enthusiastic home cook, and read widely.
